Welcome new members: SAALSMA and Invasives International

We are pleased to announce Invasives International and the Southern Australian Aboriginal Land and Sea Management Alliance (SAALSMA) as new Associate Members of the IUCN Australian Committee.
About Invasives International
Invasives International was established in 2026 to lead systemic reform in how the world manages invasive species, working to address the primary drivers of species introductions at their source.
Invasives International was also formed to propose and host a new Centre for Species Survival in partnership with the IUCN Species Survival Commission (SSC). While the formal establishment of the Centre is underway, they are already working closely with the IUCN SSC Invasive Species Specialist Group (ISSG).
While based in Australia, their mission is to lead global policy reform that secures international trade and travel pathways. Their role is to bridge a critical gap in global environmental governance by bringing an expert voice to international trade and transport forums. Invasives International advocates for mandatory, nature-positive biosecurity rules that protect biodiversity on a global scale. By advocating for robust, universal biosecurity standards, every nation will be protected from the introduction of invasive species.
About SAALSMA
The Southern Australian Aboriginal Land and Sea Management Alliance is an Aboriginal-led alliance that brings southern Nations together to strengthen care for, and healing of, land, sea and sky Country. SAALSMA connects organisations, knowledge and effort so they can act together where it matters most.
Their work begins with the understanding that Country is a living, interconnected system of relationships - land, waters, skies, species, culture, knowledge and people. Caring for Country is grounded in responsibility, connection and cultural authority.
Across Southern Australia, including Western Australia, South Australia, Victoria, Tasmania, the Australian Capital Territory and New South Wales, Aboriginal organisations are already leading this work. SAALSMA exists to back that leadership, strengthen connection, and create space for collective action.
We are thrilled to welcome Invasives International and SAALSMA into our growing alliance of organisations working together towards a shared vision for nature.
