Many of our IUCN Members have just participated in the IUCN World Conservation Congress, including the Members’ Assembly, where we voted for our global representatives as well as the future policies and programs of the IUCN.
It is now time for our Australian IUCN members to nominate representatives to sit on the Board of the Australian Committee.
The IUCN Australian Committee Board Nomination & Election process takes place at least every 2 years (if not every year), and all members have an equal opportunity to nominate representatives for our Board.
Call for Nominations

This year, we are calling for nominations for 5 Board Seats, to be held for a 2 year term from the Annual General Meeting in December 2025 to the AGM in 2027:
2 x NGO Member Representatives
2 x Government Member Representatives
New: Independent Indigenous Board Member
Note: the independent Indigenous Board Member does not need to represent a Member organisation, but they must be nominated by an IUCN Member Organisation.
To nominate yourself or someone else to sit on the ACIUCN Board, please send an expression of interest and a short biography before 5pm on Nov 30, 2025 to:
Executive Director, Sarah Terkes - director@aciucn.org.au
Public Officer, Joanne Wilson - joanne.wilson@epa.nsw.gov.au
We strongly encourage all IUCN Member representatives to consider nominating as a Board member, to ensure ongoing diversity and equity of representation.

Notes about Board Member Elections:
The new Board members will be confirmed at the AGM.

A Board planning session, including newly elected Board Members, will take place from 2pm-5pm AEDT.
About the Board
The ACIUCN Board oversees the organisation’s strategic plan, governance, risks and performance. Board members advise, support and work with the Executive Director to deliver on the mission of the ACIUCN and execute the strategic plan, including joining ad-hoc committees for planning events and contributing to official communications.
The ACIUCN Board consists of 9 positions:
2 x Government Member organisation representatives (Elected)
2 x Non-Government Member organisation representatives (Elected)
Indigenous Board Member (Independent) (Elected)
IUCN Councillor residing in Australia (Elected - Global)
Treasurer (Independent) (Appointed)
Public Officer (Independent) (Appointed)
Commissions Liaison (Independent) (Appointed)
2 x Government and 2 x NGO member representatives are elected from our member organisations, and the Independent Indigenous Board Member is nominated and elected by our membership. All of these positions serve for a term of 2 years, and are eligible for renomination for a further 3 terms (for a maximum of 8 years).
The IUCN Regional Councillor residing in Australia is elected by members at the IUCN World Conservation Congress every four years, and also serves on the ACIUCN Board for a corresponding term of four years. The IUCN Regional Councillor can serve two consecutive terms (for a maximum of 8 years)
A Chair is elected every 2 years by the sitting Board Members, and this position rotates between the Government House and the NGO House.
Board meetings are held every 2 months and voting members are required to attend so we can reach a quorum on decisions.
