About This Event

The Kunming Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework (KM GBF) was adopted in December 2022 at the 15th meeting of the Conference of the Parties to the Convention on Biological Diversity. The framework aims to halt and reverse biodiversity loss by 2030

In response to this, the Australian Committee for IUCN (ACIUCN) held a two-day workshop in 2023 to help Australia meet the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework (KMGBF) targets by 2030.

Goals:

The workshop was designed to help Australia identify actions needed to meet its commitments to the KMGBF. The purpose of the workshop was to bring together experts from across sectors to discuss, inform and contribute to:

  • Development of strategies and actions (within Australia) to meet Global Biodiversity Framework targets by 2030

  • Revision of Australia’s NBSAP due for submission at COP16 in late 2024.

Format and Participants:

The workshop was held over two days, 31 May and 1 June 2023, at the National Museum in Canberra on Ngunnawal and Ngambri Country.

Over 100 participants attended from 54 organisations, across sectors and disciplines, including NGOs, Commonwealth and State Government agencies, Indigenous organisations, philanthropic organisations, scientists, and the finance sector. Participants brought valuable expertise across the breadth of the K-M GBF targets.

Outcomes:

The workshop produced a final report that details the priority actions needed to meet Australia's commitments.
